Sample Kit #3: Brickbrag
Unsolicited sample, not an endorsement. Ship Plainly made this as a portfolio example from public information only. The maker hasn't seen, asked for, or approved it, and isn't affiliated with us. Facts are from the sources below as read Oct 17, 2026 (~11:30 AM CDT).
Sources (public)
- Show HN post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50063042 ("Show HN: Brickbrag – A multiplayer brick-building world in the browser", posted Oct 12, 2026, 4:03 PM CDT. 79 points / 40 comments at time of reading)
- Site: https://brickbrag.com/ and changelog https://brickbrag.com/changelog.html
What the public pages say:
- A shared, live brick world in the browser: build, drive cars, ride robot-driven buses, fly "trikes" from an airfield, race on a track with a live leaderboard, and buy your own lot with in-game coins.
- Plays on phone and computer, with nothing to download and no sign-up.
- The site showed "126 players in the last 24 hours", "11,904 bricks built by players", and "6,112 squares of land owned" at time of reading. These are live counters, so treat them as a snapshot.
- Bricks come from the LDraw.org parts library (CC BY 4.0).
- From the maker's HN comment: started "eight days ago" as a "cozy little brick builder" that escalated into a "GTA-style open brick world". Built with Claude Code (Opus 5.5), three.js, Node and SQLite. "My 9-year-old was the main playtester."
- Also from the maker: "Most of my time actually went into the small details: the last 20% where AI still needs a lot of human guidance."
What the HN thread raised (paraphrased): mouse look not working in Chrome on Mac for one user; performance on weaker machines (the maker pointed to graphics settings); "Second Life with legos?"; one person "lost a couple of hours"; requests for open source and a technical write-up. The maker fixed reported bugs and linked the changelog.
1. Teardown
Working:
- A no-signup browser game is a perfect fit for Show HN ("something people can play with").
- The father-and-kid playtester story and "8 days with Claude Code" are both strong hooks.
- Public changelog. Fast fixes.
What we'd change:
- Keep "LEGO" out of all launch copy. Commenters reached for it ("Second Life with legos?"), and LEGO is a trademark. "Brick" is the right word, and the site already uses it. Don't adopt the comparison in your own copy or replies. (Not legal advice.)
- Tell the vibe-coding story on its own track. Gamers want "drive, fly, build together". Builders want "8 days, Claude Code, three.js, what AI couldn't do". Split them: game copy for game communities, build log for dev communities.
- Name the 20%. The maker's own line about "the last 20% where AI still needs a lot of human guidance" is the most quotable thing in the thread. A write-up on stud snapping, chunking, client-side prediction, and lighting gotchas (all topics the maker listed) is the obvious next post.
- Ship a "low-end mode" link before a bigger launch. The performance comments came early.
2. Positioning brief
- For (players): people who want a cozy, shared sandbox they can open in a browser tab with friends or kids
- For (builders): devs curious what one person + Claude Code can ship in about a week
- Replaces: installing a heavy sandbox game; solo brick builders with no multiplayer
- Promise: A whole brick town you can build, drive, race, and fly in, shared live, nothing to install.
- Proof points (public): no download/sign-up; phone & computer; live counters on the site (snapshot); public changelog
- Objections: performance on low-end devices; "why not real bricks?"; griefing (anyone can knock down builds off your lot, per the maker)
3. Product Hunt set
Taglines (≤60):
A shared brick world in your browser. Build, race, fly(54)Build a brick town with strangers. No download needed(53)Multiplayer brick-building, right in a browser tab(50)
Description (≤500):
Brickbrag is a shared brick world in your browser. Build anywhere, or buy a lot so your builds stay yours. Drive cars, ride the robot-driven buses out to the volcano, race for the daily leaderboard, or take a trike off the airfield and fly over town. Phone or computer, nothing to download, no sign-up. Made by one parent in a week with Claude Code and three.js, with a 9-year-old as lead playtester.
(397 chars. "One parent" is inferred from "My 9-year-old". Confirm with the maker before using it.)
Maker first comment: outline (rewrite in your own words):
- Started as a cozy builder; escalated in 8 days
- The kid playtester and what they broke first (only if there's a real anecdote)
- Stack: Claude Code, three.js, Node, SQLite. What AI did and what the "last 20%" was
- Ask: "What should the next bus line lead to?"
4. X launch thread
- 8 days ago I tried to build a tiny brick builder for the browser. It escalated. Now there's a whole town: cars, buses, an airfield, a race track. 🧵 [video: flyover]
- Everyone online shares the same world. Build anywhere, or buy a lot with in-game coins so only you can build there.
- Four bus lines leave town. The drivers are robots. They're never late. [clip]
- The race track has a live board of today's fastest laps. [clip]
- My 9-year-old was the main playtester. They found most of the bugs.* [photo/clip, only if comfortable]
- Built with Claude Code + three.js + Node + SQLite. AI did a lot. The last 20% (stud snapping, chunking, prediction, lighting) took the most human time.
- Phone or computer, no download, no sign-up → brickbrag.com. What should I add next?

5. Reddit (2 posts)
A) r/WebGames. Rule summary (old.reddit sidebar + third-party summary; verify on the day): must be directly playable in browser; title must begin with the game name; no referral links; account 7+ days and 10+ comment karma; reposts need 3 months unless substantially updated (https://old.reddit.com/r/WebGames/, https://threadfox.vip/rules/webgames).
- Title:
Brickbrag - a shared brick town you can build in, drive around, race, and fly over (multiplayer, no signup) - Body: 3 lines on what to do first ("take bus 1 to the flower fields, then try the airfield"), controls (WASD, E to enter vehicles), and "I made it. Bugs welcome."
B) r/threejs (rules not verified. Check the sidebar first. If promotion isn't allowed, skip it.) A build-log angle:
- Title:
What I learned building a multiplayer brick world in three.js in 8 days (stud snapping, chunking, client-side prediction) - Body: 3–4 technical lessons with GIFs, then the link at the end. Technical-first, product-second.
6. Show HN (teardown of the actual post)
- The title was clear. The maker's first comment carried the story. Good.
- For the next post (a substantial overhaul, or the technical write-up as a regular submission): "How I built a multiplayer brick world in a week with Claude Code: what AI couldn't do" fits HN's interests better than a feature update.
7. Hero rewrite
The current hero ("Build it. Explore it. Race and fly.") is good. Small tweak:
- Headline: Build it. Drive it. Fly over it.
- Subhead: A whole brick town shared live with everyone online. Phone or computer, nothing to download, no sign-up.
- CTA: Play now
- Bullets: Build anywhere, or own a lot · Race the daily leaderboard · Robot bus drivers. Never late.
8. Launch-day checklist
