Launch teardown: ChangelogAI
Unsolicited teardown, not an endorsement. Ship Plainly wrote this from public pages only. The maker hasn't asked for, seen, or approved it, and isn't affiliated with us. Quotes are verbatim as read on the dates below.
Launch, as the pages show it (read Wed Oct 21, 2026, ~9:40 AM CDT)
- Launched on Product Hunt Tue Oct 20, 2026 (PH lists it as scheduled for 12:01 AM PT that day): https://www.producthunt.com/products/changelogai-2
- Name on PH: still "ChangelogAI" (no rename). Tagline: "Turn GitHub commits into changelogs with AI". PH gave it the URL slug
changelogai-2because the other ChangelogAI already holdschangelogai. - What the PH page showed on Oct 21: "Launched this week", 1 point and 2 followers. Nothing else is claimed here.
- Maker on X, Oct 20, 9:22 AM CDT: "We're live on Product Hunt! 🎉" (https://x.com/Orion_Labs23/status/2112550055982813456)
- The PH maker comment names the builder as Odinaka, "an indie developer from Nigeria".

What it is, from the public pages: a web app that connects to your GitHub repos and turns commits into release notes, with a public changelog timeline. It has a free tier and paid Pro/Team plans. The maker built it alone ("100% solo. 100% real.").
What's working
- A clear three-part story. The feature row is easy to scan: "Repo Sync", "AI Synthesis", "Public Timeline". Connect, generate, publish. That's the whole product in three nouns.
- The right instinct on value. "Our specialized engine analyzes commit diffs to extract actual user value, not just diffs." This is the real promise: release notes users care about, not a reformatted git log.
- A free tier you can actually try: "3 generations per month" on the Free plan, so people can test it without paying.
- The maker's own words are great. From the X launch post: "If you ship code and hate writing release notes — this is for you." That's plainer and sharper than anything on the site right now.
- New since Oct 17: the Product Hunt copy is plain. The PH tagline, "Turn GitHub commits into changelogs with AI", says what it does in seven words, close to the tagline we'd suggested. The PH maker comment is just as clear: "connect your GitHub repo, Gemini AI reads your actual commit diffs and writes the changelog for you."
What we'd change next
1. Settle the name collision
They launched as a second "ChangelogAI" on Product Hunt. The other one (changelogai.org, tagline "Generate polished release notes from your commits in seconds", launched Jun 2, 2026) holds the plain changelogai URL, so this launch sits at changelogai-2. Anyone who searches the name, or tries to find it again next week, can land on the other product.
- Fix: pick a distinct name or a clear modifier before the next big push, and use it everywhere (site title, PH name, X bio). This isn't legal advice: check names properly before committing.
- Suggested direction (rewrite, not a claim): "[New name]: release notes from your commits, by Orion Labs"
2. Bring the PH tagline and the X line to the homepage
- Now (unchanged Oct 21): "Transform your code history into human context." (H1). Meta description: "AI-powered changelog synthesis for high-performance engineering teams."
- Problem: "Human context" and "synthesis" make people work to decode them. "High-performance engineering teams" also doesn't match your own audience description on the pricing page: "From solo founders to growing engineering teams." Your PH tagline already says it better than your site does.
- Suggested rewrite:
- H1: "Release notes from your GitHub commits, written for the people who use your app."
- Subhead: "If you ship code and hate writing release notes, connect a repo and get a changelog you can publish. 3 free generations a month."
3. Remove the exposed internal label from the hero
Still there on Oct 21. Just under the CTAs, the page shows a status line naming what looks like an internal server/cluster label. It reads like a leftover from development. It adds nothing for visitors, and it's the kind of detail a security-minded commenter will point out.
- Fix: remove it, or replace it with something that's actually for users (e.g. a 5-second GIF of commits becoming a changelog).
- While you're there: the badge still says "v2.0 Now Live" and the footer still says "© 2026 ChangelogAI V2.1". Pick one.
4. Answer the token question before someone asks it
- Now (unchanged): "Connect your GitHub repositories in seconds using secure Personal Access Tokens."
- Problem: the first question from developers will be "what access does that token need, and where is it stored?" The page doesn't say.
- Suggested line (fill in the true details): "Connect with a fine-grained GitHub token. We need [read-only access to X]. Tokens are [stored how], and you can revoke them anytime from GitHub." If sign-in already uses GitHub OAuth (your X post lists "NextAuth + GitHub OAuth"), say whether repo access can go through that instead.
5. Make pricing readable for a global crowd
- Now (unchanged): "₦14,000" (Pro) and "₦29,000" (Team), each "/month".
- Problem: PH's audience is global, and most visitors won't know what ₦14,000 is in their money. They'll leave rather than look it up.
- Fix: show a USD price (or "≈ $X") next to the naira price, or add a line saying which currencies checkout accepts. We haven't converted the prices here; use your real checkout amounts.
- Also: the "Trusted by modern teams" logo row (SecurityLog, FastShip, DevSync, ShipPro) is still there. Link each name to the real team, or drop the row until you can.
